Out and Aboot

This weekend I went to the 6th International Jazz Festival of Port-au-Prince at the Karibe Hotel and a mixer at the Canadian Embassy to raise money for a local school.

The concert was a great time.  I met Ambassador Merten and his lovely wife, Susan.  Both of them really seem to love Haiti, despite the daunting problems the country faces.  After the Ambassador said a few remarks, I saw a couple of bands play, Jed Levy Quartet and a Mexican jazz band called Aguamala.  You can see a sample of what JLQ played below

Just Made It

I could not believe it, but I should have: at 4:30 am I still did not have a ticket for Haiti.

The day before, after the movers finished and before I was about to spend my last night in DC, I received an e-mail from travel services company (I’ll call them CW) at 4:58 informing me that I needed to buy my ticket.  I sat at my computer for a second, completely dumbfounded.  How could this possibly be?  The romantic answer is anything is possible in my line of work, but the real answer is probably my file slipped through the cracks.

Genesis

Yes, I just made that reference.

I should follow it up with something good, shouldn’t I?
